Contest: Plan Your Own Hawaiian Vacation

picture of The Ultimate Kauai GuidebookNow that I’ve finished my Maui trip report (and to celebrate three months of blogging), I’d like to give my readers an opportunity to get in on the fun. I am a big fan of the guidebook we used on this trip, Maui Revealed, by Andrew Doughty. Not only is it incredibly detailed and engaging with its readers, but it also receives some excellent reviews on Amazon and costs less than many other popular options like Frommer’s.

Mr. Doughty has published four different Hawaiian guidebooks for Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and Hawaii (the Big Island). I will be giving away a free book of the winner’s choice to two lucky readers. I’m thinking Kaui is next on my list. ;) One winner will be selected randomly from the comments on my blog, and the other winner will be selected randomly from my Twitter feed.

Praise, criticism, questions, or ideas of your own–it’s all good! The contest begins now and runs through Wednesday, April 4, at 11:59 PM Pacific time.

While I would like to offer a third book to people who have “liked” this blog on Facebook, various rules make it difficult to set up a contest on Facebook that requires people to like you. However, I would appreciate it if people would like me anyway since it’s a great way to introduce useful content to other readers. It’s not required. But I do hope you’ve found my blog and trip report useful. Just to remind you, here are links to the posts in this series:

In the next few days I plan to post a strategy for how to travel to Hawaii for free or nearly so. It is one of the most convenient ways to experience a little bit of paradise without even leaving American soil. (For you international readers, I’m sorry the U.S. makes visiting so bothersome with the ESTA system; hopefully you’ll visit anyway.) The Frequent Miler has already published a similar post on Hacking Hawaii, although I think there is something to be said for paying for certain things. Hawaii can actually be very affordable depending on your needs. I’ll try to provide a range of ideas from free to full-price and will draw upon comments and tweets from this contest when drafting my strategy.

I am very curious to know the results of the research and to read the other comments. I am planning a trip to HI with my wife and we will be travelling from Brazil.

Last time I was there (Oahu only) was in 1985!!!!! I guess a couple of things have changed since then… :)

I am in such an early stage of planning that not even the island I have chosen… :(

    Regards
