Rewarding Recap: Saturday, April 21

It’s a quiet day, but here are some highlights from today’s news on discounts and free point opportunities. I’ve been enjoying the welcome sun in Vancouver, afternoon tea at the Fairmont, and a suite larger than my own apartment, so you can look forward to a trip report in the very near future.

Frequent Traveler University, which is hosting an event in New York next weekend, will be heading to Los Angeles on December 7-9 later this year. Unfortunately I just could swing the time to go to New York this spring. Los Angeles just might work …assuming I’m not defending my thesis that week. So mark your calendars and keep watch at MilePoint.com for more details as they’re announced.

Singapore Airlines has a sale on award redemptions through its Krisflyer program. Book flights before May 2 for travel before June 16 and get 50% off normal listed award prices. Hat tip to Gary at View from the Wing.

The Points Guy shares a strategy for converting points between Southwest Airlines’ Rapid Rewards program and Air Tran’s A+ Rewards. Doing so may not only increase the value of your points for more and better flights but also extend the value of any points you have sitting around not yet worth enough for a free trip.

And finally, don’t forget that I am giving away 20 free upgrades to AwardWallet Plus membership (even if you’ve already taken advantage of such a free offer in the past) as well as 10 free AwardWallet OneCards that contain all of your loyalty program account numbers in one place for easy reference.
