Rewarding Recap: Free HHonors Points, AAdvantage Miles, $60 off Lufthansa

It’s been a busy two days, evidenced by my lack of posting. Megan and I are off for a short vacation this weekend to the Oregon coast and to visit my family in Grants Pass. Maybe I’ll get some writing done in the meantime. Also, for those of you in the New York area, I’ll be in Manhattan June 1-7 at BlogWorld. Feel free to drop a line if you want to meet up. Now, on with the show…

Lufthansa is offering a limited number of $60 discount codes good for travel between August 12 and September 12, but those trips must be booked by May 31 and must depart the U.S. The rules are a bit confusing to me: (1) Vouchers are only valid for itineraries where all flights are operated by Lufthansa and Lufthansa Regional Partner, but (2) Vouchers are valid for flights operated by United Airlines, Austrian Airline, and Air Canada. I assume this means you’re permitted to have domestic connections operated by other carriers on your way to the gateway (like SFO-IAD-FRA) but I’ll have to do a test booking to be sure.

New Girl in the Air shares that Hilton is offering 2,000 bonus HHonors points on your first stay with Home2Suites through August 15. This is their new-ish extended stay brand. You must register first, and two of the very few locations are not participating, so you may have trouble. But it’s worth looking into.

Kathy at Will Run for Miles shares that you can earn 500 bonus HHonors points by calling up Hilton at 1-800-445-8667 and ask to be transferred to the Hilton Vacation Club desk. If you’re willing to put up with a sales pitch on the phone, you can get 500 points. You might even be offered a discounted vacation at one of their timeshare properties, with thousands more bonus points offerred, but feel free to say no. (Megan gets these offers all the time from Starwood for their Hawaii hotels; why they ignore me is a mystery.)

Mommy Points shares that United’s online shopping portal is giving a bonus 500 miles for a $50 purchase through June 17 for Fathers Day. Fortunately I was targeted, but I have a hard enough time shopping for my dad as it is, so I’m not sure limiting myself to an online portal is going to help, but we’ll see what happens. Maybe I’ll make him fly up here to visit me first. …there needs to be an evil grin emoticon, someone tell me what it is…

GhettoIFE is giving away 1,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles if you post a comment by Sunday, May 27, on your best economy class experience. My economy experiences aren’t that awful–or all that great. I kind of just black them out. Like dreams. I must have the most boring dreams because I never remember any of them. :(

The Frugal Travel Guy shares that Fairmont is offering a variety of summer travel deals at some of their U.S. and Canada hotels. Of course, there’s no love for Seattle. Never is. Even though Fairmont’s Earl Grey tea is wicked awesome.

Loyalty Traveler shares that Priority Club is offering a 25% discount when you redeem your Priority Club points for gasoline gift cards. I don’t have many PC points yet, although I guess I could transfer Ultimate Rewards points (hint: bad idea). I guess I have to say “meh.” I could redeem 15,000 points for a $50 card, but instead I redeemed my last 15,000 to get $100 off a HI Express and live it up in Grants Pass.

I don’t normally take advantage of Starbucks’ freebies, and I don’t use this app, but those who like Kayak should stop by for an afternoon espresso and get a free download code for Kayak Pro. HT to the Unroadwarrior. I was just there and they didn’t have any, but they were giving away free tickets to local events. You might try your luck.

Gadling shares an opportunity to win a free trip to see the Tour de France by “liking” Cannondale’s Facebook page. I am not much of a sports guy, so it’s not uncommon to hear me ask stupid questions, like if there’s a football game on in May. The first time I was in France, in early July, I heard a bunch of commotion and though the Tour de France was coming through town that day. No. It was not. It was the gay pride parade, and I got to see my first European riot. :D What a sheltered life.

Point Me to the Plane shares that Delta has made a targeted offer for double miles on certain nonstop flights to and from LGA. Enjoy.

Oh, and I just found out my graduation might be moved up another week and a half. Fun times here in Seattle. I may be doing more writing than meetups during my time in New York.

Have a great trip! I still remember our day trip at the Oregon coast when we drove from Portland.

    Tour of the Rogue brewery?

    • Scottrick

That’s a thought. I’ve done the jet boats a couple times, from both sides of the Rogue River. And I hear there’s some boat festival this weekend, so I might not want to be on the water anyway.

Um, Seattle is always on the list! Check underthe  N. Am cities tab…

I know. The issue is why the rules say that travel must be on Lufthansa-operated flights and then later contradict that statement by saying they could also be on other carrier’s flights. If either is possible, could the coupon be used for a domestic UA-operated flight? Or is it allowing for a domestic leg operated by another carrier to get you to the Lufthansa-operated flight required earlier in the rules?

I have read some good stuff here. Definitely worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how a lot effort you place to make such a wonderful informative website.
