Courtesy of a reader and FlyerTalk, some of you might be interested to learn that the infamous mistake fares from Rangoon, Myanmar (RGN) are back! The trick with these flights is you have to depart RGN, so you’re on your own finding someway to get there in the first place. But first class (and business class?) business class availability on the way home should make for a nicer experience once you do.
There are four basic tricks to this fare:
- You have to depart RGN and arrive in Canada
- You have to fly the transpacific leg on Delta
- You have to book on a foreign website (see the FT thread)
- You have to enter your CC info while the fare is still high. It will reprice after agreeing to purchase (you can still cancel within 24 hours if something wrong happens)
But despite these limitations, some people have reported being able to arrange stopovers in Honolulu and elsewhere. And even if your final destination isn’t Canada, a guy like me could route through PDX or SEA and just get off the plane early.
I haven’t explored this deal much because I don’t think I have time to take advantage of it. There are other travel adventures I need to pursue, and they need to be on United or American for the time being. But those of you who feel you missed out on the RGN-SFO fares earlier should take a look.
Note: I understand a lot of people get huffy about bloggers sharing mistake fares. Well, this is not a deal that is going to last for days and days. It will get noticed and shut down eventually, and it’s already up on FlyerTalk–which gets a lot more traffic than this puny blog. My opinion is the more people who learn about this while it’s still available, the better, but I’ve deliberately left out a complete walkthrough. People will have to find the fare on their own.
