Getting Old Made Easier by the Grand Hyatt Singapore

One of the advantages to celebrating your birthday on the other side of the International Date Line is that it lasts really long. After celebrating it here in Singapore, it was still going on States-side while I enjoyed a glass of Champagne at the Private Room in Singapore Airline’s SilverKris first class lounge.

However, I was much more impressed with the service I received at the Grand Hyatt Singapore. Over four days they provided exemplary service and even came through with a generous resolution to a dilemma I had with our room assignment. Because of that, they deserve some good press, starting with this:

Not only did they remember my birthday, they even got the “Dr.” part right. ;) The Diamond welcome amenity wasn’t bad, either. Actually, I met so many staff members who remembered my name, never failing to greet us in the elevator or in the hallway, that I feel embarrassed for not doing a better job of remembering them. It’s almost like they had a dossier with my photo they passed around before our arrival.

Things didn’t start out this smoothly, but everything turned out well in the end. In fact, I had such a great time in Singapore that I think it’s already fair to say that they provided one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever enjoyed. More about the issue and its resolution tomorrow.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing:) oh and Happy belated birthday. Although I’m Diamond with Hyatt, I happened to stay at a Kimpton property for my birthday(I’m a inner circle member) a couple weeks ago and they provided the same type of service/treatment during my wkend stay. Birthday chocolate, a bottle of Ciroc vodka , couple of bottles of tonic water, ballons..I mean a true spread!. staff was incredible and I so appreciate the “little things” like this…

Happy belated birthday, Scott! Glad to hear that you guys really enjoyed yourselves. Looking forward to more trip details. How did the Hyatt figure out the Dr part?

    • Scottrick

It’s in my GP profile, but not everyone reads that part.

welcome to 5star hotels in asia :)
in tokyo i swear i had a guy following me for half of a run, carrying a water bottle and towel, and similarly in seoul a bellman wanted to run next to me with an umbrella. talking them out of these things was more of a workout than the run.

I guess it’s a good thing I decided not to exercise on this trip (but I’ll need to when I get back…)

Happy Birthday Scott! I’m going to have a bunch of questions for you because I’m going to SIN in November. I’m also staying at the Hyatt, but I’m flying DL.

thanks for this and Happy Birthday. I’m staying at the same Hyatt next week as a Diamond member. Did you convert some US $ to Singapore $ in advance? Also, did you take a cab to the hotel. We are arriving in Singapore at about 12:30AM.

    • Scottrick

You’ll want to read my next post, then. I converted a limited amount of dollars for places that don’t take CC. This was useful when we took a cab after arriving (under 30 minutes and cheap) because the guy’s CC reader didn’t work. However, no rooms available upon arrival. It was an unusual situation and I’ve heard most times they can do an early check-in, but it didn’t work out for us.

It seems like you were well taken care of @ GH SIN, and that cake looked delish. I look forward to your take on Singapore and here’s a happy belated birthday to you!
