I just returned from my first experience traveling on Singapore Airlines, enjoying both their first and business class products. I don’t have a lot of past history with premium international cabins since I’m often trying to pay for my own trips and most of my flights are domestic anyway. I was really looking forward to comparing the quality of service on one of the world’s best airlines with what I normally endure in domestic first.
Overall I was impressed. Business class more or less met my expectations. First class, however, amazed me with how much upwards potential there is for an in-flight experience. The food and beverage were worthy of an actual restaurant, and the amenities and décor provided indication that someone had really put some thought into making my journey comfortable during a long flight.
Lucky over at One Mile at a Time often argues that first class awards with Singapore is such a cheap buy up (It was just an extra 10,000 United miles for us) that there’s no reason to settle for business class when you have a choice. I agree with that logic for the most part. But I also think that first class had a lot of extras I didn’t really need or want. I actually had a better experience flying back in business class than I did during my outbound trip in first.
So anyway, there’s a teaser for my upcoming trip report. Besides the heat, I had few complaints about my trip, and for some of you planning to visit Singapore or Hong Kong in the near future I’ll be able to make some suggestions as a fellow first-time visitor. Though I tend to dawdle, I’ll try to get this one done quickly.
