PNW Mileage Runs: PDX-IAH-BOS

Credit goes to TheBOSman for this excellent run between Boston and Portland. Very few same-day turns were available when I checked, but here’s one I found out in February 2013. Remember what I said this morning? Now is the time to start booking any mileage runs you might need for next year’s status. However, one-night stays can be found more frequently, including in January and December. I found the most availability for transit through Houston, which I prefer because there are no regional jets and my upgrade chances tend to be better. But LAX will get you more miles.

Still, at just under $240 for 6,832 miles, that comes out to 3.5 CPM, a very nice price these days. I say stay overnight and enjoy the city. Boston has always been one of my favorites.

How do you find these runs? I mean I don’t want to just go for a day but that’s a great price for a weekend and stuff like that?

Part of it is following other people I know are good. The Flight Deal, TheBOSman, BryanIAH, and a few others are very good at finding and sharing runs. (I give credit but don’t feel bad publicizing them because they tend to disappear quickly anyway.)

You can also learn how to use ITA and just try different airports. Certain ones tend to be more reliable. Like MCI, FLL, and BWI from Seattle. Maximize the routing by choosing your hubs well. You can search my blog for a walkthrough of using ITA.

Finally, fare sales from one airline may result in competing sales from your own airline. So always pay attention to all the sales, don’t ignore, say, Delta just because you don’t fly Delta. United may drop to match.

Does the BOSman have a blog, or does he just send you flights when he finds them?

        • Scottrick

          He shares them on FlyerTalk.

Can you post ones from the East Cost as well? Say, from the WAS area.

I know the MR Deals thread exists but I visit your blog more often. By the time I notice a MR deal, it is gone.

Maybe. I try to post those from the Pacific Northwest because we get ignored up here. Although I don’t think most of us mind that :D
