PNW Mileage Runs: UA SEA-CLE for 3.4 CPM

FrequentFlyKid posted his first mileage run on FlyerTalk today! If any of you need some last-minute miles to requalify this year, it’s a good one. Earn 7,276 EQM for only $249, or about 3.4 CPM. The only two problems are a tight connection in SFO on the outbound, and there are no same-day turns on the weekend. Hopefully you can spare a workday. I would take this trip myself if my needs weren’t already met for the year as I still have yet to visit the infamous mini-hub of Cleveland.

To show you how to force an itinerary like this, here’s what I searched for:

You can see that I insisted on connections in SFO, adding more miles than if I simply went to IAD or EWR directly from Seattle. However, I didn’t want to limit myself to only EWR or only IAD. Since the mileage difference between the two is minimal, I separated them by a comma to allow either hub. And I used “UA+” instead of “UA” alone to permit additional connections if they happened to exist. There were a few options, but none that were cheaper or even comparable with the more direct routing. Finally, I searched for trips that were 0-1 days so it would include both same-day and over-night itineraries. By keeping things flexible yet constrained like this, you can usually search for lots of mileage run opportunities using only a few queries.

Sometimes I wish I lived near SEA. And then I think about things other than mileage runs…

Like cheap rent that lets me afford mileage runs :) (cheap compared to SFO, that is). Or the fact that when it rains 10 months out of the year, I don’t feel bad about traveling so much.
