Rewarding Recap: Free Hotel Status + Cheap Miles and Points

Don’t forget, there is only one more day to enter my giveaway for a $100 Southwest Airlines voucher. And it’s good until next July! You’ll have tons of time to use it. All entries by Twitter must be received before the end of Thursday. A new contest will go up on Friday, and I have an even bigger giveaway planned for Monday. With that, here are a few of the deals and sales announced so far this week:

Free Starwood Gold Status for CLEAR Members – View from the Wing

I originally thought this deal wasn’t so special. I’ve never really found the need to sign up for CLEAR what with premium security lines and the occasional PreCheck. But it turns out everyone who applied for a MilePoint premium membership also got a 90 day free trial to CLEAR, which you could use to get your SPG Gold status for “free.”

20% Bonus on Purchased Starpoints – Deals We Like

I’m not sure this is the best deal, but it’s a good enough price (2.8 cents per point vs. the usual 3.5 cents) that I think it’s worthwhile if you have upcoming stays or just need to top off. It really depends on which property you plan to use your Starpoints. Purchases must be made by November 30. Ric at Loyalty Traveler has a good analysis of why you should consider buying these points.

2X Miles from Vienna to Asia – LufthansaFlyer

Travel must be on Lufthansa or Austrian, you must depart Vienna, and residents of Switzerland aren’t eligible. While I’m not sure how many of you can take advantage of this, double miles is always good. Travel must be by the end of November.

Free Marriott Rewards Silver Status – View from the Wing

Gary shares a new offer via FatWallet for free Silver status with Marriott. As he points out, Silver status isn’t great, but it’s better than nothing and can sometimes be parlayed into a match or trial with another program. As long as it’s free, I always advocate going for free status. You never know what it will lead to.

Free Langham 1865 Voyager Status – View from the Wing

Just like above, free status. This offer is similar to those for Hilton HHonors Gold status earlier this year, where you only had to put in some numbers from a Visa Infinite credit card which are not customer-specific and can be found pretty easily on the Internet.

40% off Sofitel and Free Le Club Accor Platinum Status – View from the Wing

Great! My Platinum status just expired in September, so now I can renew. I never really used it, but the next time I’m stuck in Europe without an American brand around, this will come in handy.

1,000 Points per Night at Hilton Thursday-Monday – Loyalty Traveler

This is best for people doing mattress runs or vacation travel, but Hilton’s fall quarter promotion is giving 1,000 bonus HHonors points for every night Thursday through Monday. Not the greatest promotion, especially since there are many non-participating hotels.

250 Bonus MQMs with Hilton and Hertz – Points, Miles, & Martinis

Do you want to earn elite status without even flying? Now’s your chance. Get some bonus points for every Hilton stay or Hertz rental. In fact, thanks you rollover miles, you could just try to accumulate miles this year without reaching elite status, making it all that much easier next year.

Win a Trip to Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro – LufthansaFlyer

Straight from LF’s quote: “The Grand Prize consists of two tickets to Rio de Janeiro on American Airlines, five nights hotel accommodations for two, samba dance classes for two, and participation for two in the 2013 Carnaval Parade as part of a samba dance troupe, complete with samba costumes.”

Total 1,000,000 US Airways Miles and a Free Cruise Giveaway – Points, Miles, & Martinis

US Airways is giving away a grand prize of 500K miles plus a free cruise as well as five runner up prizes of 100K miles each. You must enter by January 31.

Purchase Most Airline Miles for 0.8 CPM – View from the Wing

I mentioned this before back during the Daily Giveaways, how some of the cheaper hotel point packages like Wyndham’s were best used (IMO) by converting them to airline miles. Well, now Wyndham has yet another promotion to earn 16,000 bonus points, and with all the cheap properties out there that will let you earn credit even if you don’t show, this is a way to earn those bonus points and convert them to airline miles very cheaply.
