I usually go to Hawaii in summer, and this year I went in winter. But fall is definitely one of the cheapest times to visit. It makes me wish my family could dispense with the Christmas tree and just go to the Westin Maui or one of its sister properties on the islands. (But there’s always socks. I’m the one guy who actually loves getting new socks.)

    Where do you recommend to go for a first trip,Honolulu, Kauai, Maui ?

      I love Maui. I’ve been there five or six times. There’s lots to do, and I get bored sitting on a beach all day. Kauai I haven’t been to, but I hear it’s a lot quieter, fewer kids, maybe better for a romantic or relaxing getaway. Oahu I like, too, but not Honolulu. Waikiki is just the same as any other large coastal city like Miami, Barcelona, or Los Angeles. The beach is narrow and crowded. Go to the north shore instead. There aren’t as many hotels, but you can rent a house a block or two from the water.
