Win a Systemwide Upgrade on American Airlines!

I shared the news last year about American Airlines offering status matches to their top tier Executive Platinum status if you were Premier 1K with United Airlines. This was a true status match, with no required travel before it went into effect, and it even came with the usual eight eVIP systemwide upgrades and a few other perks like lounge and WiFi passes.

Although I appreciated the opportunity to try out American, which I hadn’t flow at all for the previous six years, I didn’t take very full advantage of my new status. American just doesn’t provide very frequent service to where I live in Seattle. Alaska Airlines is one of their partners, and it makes more sense for me to earn status directly with Alaska — something I plan to work on this year.

Instead, I let my Executive Platinum status lapse, and I now have five remaining systemwide upgrades to give away. These can be used on any American Airlines-operated flight booked in any fare class (even deep-discounted economy fares). However, the flight must depart on or before February 28, when the upgrades expire.

Prizes

I plan to choose four winners. Three (3) people will each receive one (1) eVIP systemwide upgrade. One (1) person will receive two (2) eVIP systemwide upgrades, which you can use for a roundtrip flight or to upgrade yourself and a companion. Of course, you are welcome to hand these off to a friend if you win but won’t be traveling on American Airlines this month.

Entry

As usual, you may enter through Facebook or Twitter, one time each. You can enter through Tuesday, February 12, at 10:00 PM Pacific Time. I’ll post a comment on the Hack My Trip Facebook page later today, and you may enter by sharing the destination of the flight you plan to upgrade. To enter on Twitter, you’ll need to follow me and send a tweet including the hashtag #FlyFirst and your destination. For example:

Hey @HackMyTrip! I want to #FlyFirst on the new American when I visit New York next week.

Winners

I will select the winners using Random.org. Each entry gets a number, and Random.org picks the lucky numbers. I will announce the winners by the end of Wednesday so we can get those upgrades applied ASAP to any flights you have booked this month.
