AmEx Platinum Statement Credit for losing AA/US lounges

Over the weekend, American Express Platinum members lost lounge access to American Airlines Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs.

This policy change was announced in the beginning of December (December 4, 2013, to be exact).  Many of us received e-mails from American Express with the subject heading, “Important information about your Platinum Card(R) Account.”

Some of us were offered anywhere from $200 to $500 in “statement credits toward American Airlines and US Airways incidental fees charged to your card between March 22, 2014 and December 31, 2014.”

Did you receive a statement credit offer on your AmEx Platinum?

Did you receive a statement credit offer on your AmEx Platinum?

This is in addition to the $200 airline fee credit that all Platinum cardholders receive.  I purchased 2 x $100 American Airlines gift cards in early January and got my credit.

I purchased another set of $100 AA gift cards yesterday as well, and will report back on if my account gets the credit.  I just wanted this post to serve as a reminder to those who got the offer that the period to get your statement credits has begun.

If you did not receive a statement credit offer and hold an Amex Platinum, you can always call and voice your displeasure – some people were able to get statement credits offered over the phone after calling in.  You may not be successful, but you miss all of the shots you don’t take.

I got an email looking like this but not giving me any additional credits. It only reminds me of the normal $200 a year in incidental credits which sucks. I’m not renewing the card.

I called when they announced the change and they offered me $100. They just sent me an e-mail confirming the $100 statement credits for AA and USAir. Will be interested in seeing if the gift cards count against that credit.

      They do.

I got a $500 credit on top of the $200 default airline credit. I think it was targeted to people who use the lounge access the most (family frequents Admirals club). Will use this for membership this year, and then most likely cancel next since I just got the Citi AAdvantage Executive card.

Was only offered $100 when I called last week. I thought the agent said $200 when I called back in October. Won’t keep the card for much longer.

Got $100 added on. Thanks for the reminder Amol.

I was offered $200 statement credit or 25K MR points. I took the points.

      Good stuff!

Scott, I got the $500 offer (called retention and also got 6,000 points) and bought $100 in GC on March 22, the first available day. This was refunded on 3/24. Thank you, Amex!

I was offered a $200 credit last December when Amex announced the lounge access changes. I purchased two $100 AA gift cards on 3/22. On 3/25, two $100 statement credits appeared on my online account.
